Making your own perfume can be more cost-efficient than buying an expensive bottle at department store. Even if cost is not a factor, it's a cool project to do at home and gives you a lot more control and choice over what scent you wear. Some people have even been able to create their own home businesses or catalog businesses by making perfume. Whatever your reason is, here's a recipe to concoct your very own chocolate-scented perfume.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pure grain alcohol, such as vodka
  • Dropper
  • Chocolate fragrance oil
  • Tablespoon
  • Distilled or spring water
  • Glycerin
  • Glass or plastic container
  1. Step 1

Mix 1/4 cup of the pure grain alcohol with 5 drops of the chocolate fragrance oil. Pour a drop at a time and stir so that the oil completely blends in. Chocolate fragrance oil can be purchased online, in arts and crafts stores or at health stores.

  2. Step 2

Let the alcohol and oil mixture sit for a minimum of 48 hours to a maximum of 1 month in a cool place with no direct sunlight. The longer the mixture stands, the stronger the scent will be. You can always adjust the sitting time for the next batch to suit your preference.

  3. Step 3

Add 2 tbsp. distilled or spring water to the alcohol and oil mixture and stir slowly. If the perfume is too strong, add more tablespoons of water until the scent is to your liking.

  4. Step 4

Add 1 tbsp. glycerin to the alcohol-oil-water mixture and stir again slowly. Glycerin makes your scent last longer. It can be purchased online or at any store that sells soap-making supplies.

  5. Step 5

Filter your perfume through an unused coffee filter and pour into your glass or plastic container. Keep your bottle tightly sealed when you're not using it, and store it away from direct light and heat. You can find containers with sprayers at an arts and crafts store or online. Colored, vintage or retro-style bottles look great and can also be purchased online, in a thrift store or at a flea market.
