Cloth napkins for your place settings make guests feel like you went out of your way for them. Cloth napkins complete your table in a way that paper napkins just don’t do. Cloth napkins are also better for the environment because they are reusable. There are several different ways to fold your cloth napkins. For a special meal skip the classic triangle fold and fold your cloth napkin like a flower. Your guest will adore your beautiful place settings. You can bask in the pride of knowing your table looks just as pretty as those seen on television.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Wash your cloth napkins. Pull them from the dryer before they get wrinkled. Lay them out flat on your table. Pull the top corner of the cloth napkin down until it meets the bottom corner. The napkin should now form a triangle. Move the top point of the triangle so it faces downward.
Step2
Grab the left corner of the cloth napkin and pull it to the bottom. Do the same with the right corner. Your cloth napkin should be in a diamond shape.
Step3
Pull the top corner of the cloth napkin approximately ¾ of the way to the bottom corner.
Step4
Pull the bottom of the napkin that you just folded up to the top. The point of the fold should be facing up.
Step5
Grab the cloth napkin and flip it over so that the pointed end is facing up. Grab the left side and fold it towards the middle stop about half way.
Step6
Fold the right side to the middle and tuck the end into the left side. Stand up the napkin.
Step7
Turn the napkin around so the folds are facing the back. Pull the left and right sides down so they look like the petals of a flower.
Step8
Place the cloth napkin on your plate to complete your place setting. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 until all of your napkins are folded.

Tips & Warnings

  • To add some color try folding two cloth napkins of different colors together. This will give you more petals for your flower and will add more color.
  • Add a flower at the bottom of the fold or in front of the flower for an additional touch. Be sure to use flowers that are safe to eat since they will be touching the plate.
  • Some foods and drinks will stain cloth napkins. Use a darker color napkin for those foods.
