Get Cheap Dental Work in Mexico

Even with insurance, many people are finding that quality dental and health care is not affordable in the United States. With high deductibles and poor coverage, families are traveling outside of the country to have expensive procedures like root canals, dentures and oral surgery. Many of the dentists in Mexico were trained in the United States or at internationally accredited dental schools, and many speak English. With a good referral, you can find a quality dentist to perform even the most expensive and complicated task for significantly less than you would pay at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a referral from someone who has seen the dentist. By visiting local bulletin boards or websites for the area of Mexico you are traveling to, you can get some referrals by people who live in the area of which dentists to see and which ones to avoid. There are large expatriate communities in many areas of Mexico, and they can point you in the right direction.

    • 2

Use a referral service. Some cities have medical referral services for the expatriates and people who visit. Look for their ads in the English newspapers and magazines in the cities you are visiting (see Resources below).

    • 3

Interview the dentist. Make sure that you are comfortable with the dentist you choose. You should feel comfortable that you are able communicate what you need and also understand the aftercare instructions.

    • 4

Get it translated. If you aren't bilingual, don't let that stop you from seeing a good dentist in Mexico. Ask someone who is fluent in Spanish to write down exactly what it is that you are looking for and any questions that you have. Better yet, ask someone who is fluent in Spanish to come with you to see the dentist.

    • 5

Look in the local paper. Read the local English newspapers and magazines to find ads of bilingual dentists. You can also get a copy of the local classified newspaper for the area and check the health section for ads from local dentists.
