Crossword puzzles are a great way to entertain yourself as well as improve upon your vocabulary. You may not be able to enjoy one of these puzzles in your favorite magazine or newspaper, though, if you're in class or at the office. These puzzles may also have become a bore to you. Luckily, there are more than enough puzzles to find on the internet. Here are a couple of ways to play crossword puzzles online.

From Quick Guide: Crossword Puzzles
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log onto the Boatload of Crosswords website (see Resources). Once there, you will automatically be taken to one of 40,000 puzzles.

  2. Step 2

Click on one of the hints underneath the “Across” or “Down” heading. Once you do, the first letter of that particular word will be shaded a darker blue in the crossword puzzle. You can also left-click on any box in the puzzle to place a letter there.

  3. Step 3

Type the letter into the appropriate box to begin filling out the crossword puzzle. If you click the first letter of the word, you can simply type in the entire word and the corresponding boxes will be filled it.

  4. Step 4

Press the “Delete” or “Backspace” key to delete letters in the crossword.

  5. Step 5

Click the “Solve Letter” box to fill in the letter you have selected in the crossword. Select the “Solve Word” tab after clicking on the first letter of the word to find out that particular word. If you're completely stumped, click “Solve Puzzle” and the entire puzzle will be filled out.

  6. Step 6

Go to the Crossword section of Yahoo Games. From there you will find puzzles from the previous two weeks, including the current date.

  7. Step 7

Click the link to open the crossword you wish to begin playing.

  8. Step 8

Play the game in same manner as on the “Boatload of Crosswords” website. You can use the tabs above the crossword to solve a single letter, a word or the entire puzzle. You can also time yourself by clicking “Click to Start and Stop Clock.” Select the “Save Puzzle” tab to save your work until you can complete the puzzle.
