How to Make a Throw Pillow With no Zipper

Throw pillows come in all shapes and sizes. Some people like to have lots of throw pillows on their couch, bed and chairs, while others want just one or two. Throw pillows can hide imperfections and worn spots on your furniture. Make pillows as big or small as you want, using any fabric you choose.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the fabric of your choice on a hard flat surface. Cut out enough fabric for two pieces of material of the same size. This will be the front and back of your throw pillow.

    • 2

Place the two pieces together and pin. If your fabric has designs on it, place the designs face to face and pin together. If you don’t do this, you will have to take out the stitches, turn the fabric around and sew it again.

    • 3

Sew the two pieces of fabric together, leaving a space big enough to stick your hand in. Take the pins out as you sew. You need the opening to stuff the pillow.

    • 4

Turn the pillow inside out and start stuffing it with the pillow batting until it is as full as you want it. Make sure it is not too full to close the opening.

    • 5

Pin the opening and sew it closed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add lace trimming or ruffles if desired. Pin the lace or ruffle to the inside of one piece of the fabric and then sew all together. Make sure all trimming material is facing towards the middle or you might accidentally sew the edge of the trim wrong.

  • Add a bit of quilting on the top of the pillow. You need a piece of quilt batting cut to fit the top piece of fabric. Either quilt the top on the sewing machine or by hand using thread and a needle. Then sew the two pieces together.

  • When sewing with pins, take pins out before sewing over them. That can cause the needle to break or dent and maybe break the pins.
