How to Troubleshoot the Spooler SubSystem App Error
When you try to add a printer to a Windows XP computer, you may receive the following error message: “Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close.” When installing the new printer, the error message may be displayed, and the printer will uninstall. Click the "My Computer" icon, usually found on the desktop. If it isn't, click on the "Start" button in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and then click "My Computer" in the Start menu.

Click the "Tools" button in the menu at the top of the dialog box. Select "Folder Options" in the drop-down menu that appears. This will open the Folder Options window.

Click on the View tab. Next, put a check against the option labeled "Show Hidden Files and Folders." You will need to uncheck the option labeled "Hide Extensions for Known File Types."

Click on the "Start" button and then click "Search." Look in the left column and select the option labeled "All Files and Folders."

Type the following file name into the text box labeled “All or Part of the Filename”: hpzimm12.dll. Click on the "Look In" drop-down box and select drive C (or whichever drive that Windows is installed on). Click on the "Search" button.

Locate the "hpzimn12.dll" file in the right-hand pane once the search is complete. Right-click on it and select "Delete" to remove it.

Restart your computer and run the installation CD-ROM that came with your printer. The problem will be solved, and the printer should now install normally without the error message.
