Harvesting marijuana does not have to be a complicated procedure. In only a few steps, you can learn how to cut the plants down, how to remove the buds and leaves, how to dry the parts properly and how to store them. Anyone who has grown plans but has been confused by the harvesting process can read on to master the simple techniques.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large work area
  • Strong but not overpowering desk light
  • Scissors
  • Brown paper bags
  • a fan
  • String or wire
  • Storage container
Step1
Fresh bud with long stem intact. Cut the buds cleanly away from the plant, beginning with the highest buds on the top of the plant (often referred to as "nuggets"). Make sure to use sharp scissors that are small enough to allow you to get close. Leave a long stem attached to the bud. This will be helpful if you hang the buds up to dry. Once you remove them from the marijuana plant, let them dry on a clean surface. It is preferable to use a large brown paper bag that has been cut open and laid out flat.
Step2
The leaves are distinctly different from the buds. Cut off the leaves when you have removed all the buds from the plant.. Cut them from the plant and cut them if they are attached to the buds. You can also place them on the brown paper bag to fully dry.
Step3
Hanging marijuana buds to dry. Hang your buds to dry in a room with minimal lighting that has a temperature between 65 and 70 degrees F. Hot temperatures and strong lighting can ruin your marijuana potency. Attach your buds from the stem to a line of string (or wire) and hang them upside down. Keep a light fan circulating the air in the room where you are drying your marijuana. Depending on the strain of marijuana you have used and the size of the buds, drying times can vary from a week to 10 days or more.
Step4
Fresh marijuana buds in a jar. Store the marijuana. Once dried, you can store it any container with a tight seal. Make sure to stir the buds within the jar a few times a day so that the temperature distribution is even. You don't want any moisture inside the container. If you are growing different strains at once, it would be wise to label your jar correctly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Growing marijuana is illegal in some countries. If you take on this procedure, you do so at your own risk.
