How to Experience the Paranormal in Nova Scotia
One of the most beautiful areas of Canada, Nova Scotia was built on its history of shipbuilding, gold mining and lumber. Explored by greats like John Cabot and Samuel Champlain and settled by scores of Scottish immigrants, this seaside location has its share of ghostly residents as well. Whether you want to meet some infamous criminals or spectral priests you’ll find plenty of ghost hunting opportunities in Nova Scotia.

Check out the Brewery Market on Salter Street in Halifax. Staff here report seeing the apparition of a man, who was supposedly murdered, in the mirror in the bathroom. Other visitors claim to hear footsteps in the empty hallways which may be attributed to Alexander Keith, the former owner of the pub.

Go back to college at Kings College in Halifax. Reputed to have plenty of ghostly activity, the apparition of a janitor has been sited here. Talk to students to hear more stories of personal encounters.

Take a walk through the graveyard at Christ’s Church in Wadden's cove. Nighttime visitors have reported seeing a spectral priest walking through the woods and hearing disembodied voices whispering in their ears. Try taking some photos here to detect the presence of orbs.

Try some EVP work (electric voice phenomenon) at the child’s grave in Thorburn Exchange. Drive past Cross Roads Market and keep right. You’ll come to a dirt road. Continue down the road about 7 or 8 meters until you find a small fenced-in grave of a young child on the side of the road. Ghost hunters report feeling the spirit of the child take their hand or touch them, and some even find ghostly fingerprints on their cars as they prepare to leave. Be respectful and bring a toy.

Salute the ghostly soldiers at the Halifax Armory on Ahern Avenue. Built and used during the late 1800s, claims include seeing the apparition of a WW1 solider seen still in uniform. Try some EVP work here and talk to the locals for personal experiences.

Go to Devil’s Island in Halifax Harbor. Of course a place called Devil’s Island would have to have some kind of paranormal activity and people on the mainland claim to see ghostly orb lights and fires on this deserted isle.

Head to the gallows at the Old Halifax Courthouse on Spring Garden Road. See if you can go up to the top floor where they keep parts of the old and well-used gallows. The story goes that a janitor ran from those rooms screaming and has never returned. Sure to have some kind of residual energy, take some pictures and see if you can capture some infamous criminals from the past.

Take a boat to the Northumberland Strait. Famous for its burning ghost ship, this Atlantic area between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia is the location for the sighting of this spectral sailing vessel.
