Things You'll Need:
- Glass Bottle
- Drill, drill bits
- Copper Wire
- Safety Goggles and Gloves
- Glass Paint and Paintbrush, optional
-
Step 1
Choose a bottle with at least a one-inch opening at the top, so that there is enough room for the incense stick. You’ll also want to make sure that the bottle is tall enough to support the height of the incense sticks you are planning to use.
-
Step 2
Paint your bottle, if applicable. Use glass paint, and choose whatever design you wish. Let the bottle dry completely before drilling, resting it upside down on a paper towel or rag, so that any paint that is on the inside runs out. Let the paint dry according to the manufacture’s specifications.
-
Step 3
Mark the bottle with a magic-marker, on both sides, with a small dot. This is where you will be drilling the vent holes. These should be about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the bottle.
-
Step 4
Using your drill or drill press, you are ready to drill your holes. Rest the bottle at a slight angle on a soft surface, such as a folded towel. A hand drill may be used, but using a drill press can allow for more control and stability. If you opt to use a hand press, enlist the help of another adult to keep the bottle still.
-
Step 5
Use a ¼ inch glass or tile drill bit on the two marks that you have made. Be very careful, taking your time to do it right and neat. Do not force the drill bit into the bottle, as this could cause it to break. When you have finished drilling, carefully blow away any dust and glass fragments from the bottle and surrounding area. Wipe the bottle with a soft cloth.
-
Step 6
Make an incense clip with thin copper wire. Twist it, preferably around a pencil or pen, so that you get a spring shape. Then, twist an end of the copper wire around an incense stick. You are now ready to light the incense and lower it into the bottle. Use the copper coil to rest on the lip of the bottle, so that the incense does not fall in.
