Instructions

    • 1

Decide on a guest list and create invitations. Make an invitation with clip art of a rabbit coming out of a hat or playing cards in the border. Invite your guests to a "magical party."

    • 2

Hire a magician. A half hour show is a good length for children and allows time for other activities at the party.

    • 3

Decorate magically. Use red, black and white throughout the decorations. For the centerpiece of your dining table arrange a top hat with a bunny (stuffed animal) in it. Scatter playing cards, dice and magic sets on the table as well. Cover the table with red, black and white tablecloths and similarly colored cups, forks, spoons and napkins and balloons. Use scarves tied together to decorate throughout the house instead of streamers. Make them pop out of top hats.

    • 4

Play games. Divide kids into groups to play card games such as War, Old Maid and Go Fish.

    • 5

Tell the children's future. Hire a "fortune teller" (a neighbor or friend who is outgoing and enjoys telling stories is good for this). Have her dress with a shawl over her head and another draped around her shoulders. Have her predict the kids' futures using an eight ball to which they can ask a question. She can also ask them their birthday and tell them their zodiac sign and horoscope. Then have her do some creative "palm reading" by looking at the lines on their hands.

    • 6

Serve cake and ice cream. Have the cake decorated with a rabbit in a hat using your theme colors of red, white and black.

    • 7

Favors can be put in top hats for the kids to take home. Stuff the hats with red tissue paper and Include items such as magic wands, mini-decks of cards, magic tricks, glow in the dark stickers and glow balls.

Tips & Warnings

  • A good rule of thumb for the number of children to invite is your child's age. For example, for an eight-year-old's party, invite eight kids.

  • Have children playing card games while others are meeting with the fortune teller, so that no one is bored and has time to get into mischief.
