How to Create Your Own Graffiti Templates
Graffiti has become an art form in and of itself, and as long as it does not destroy public or private property, it is a great means of expression. Graffiti artists who want to take their art form to a real arena and showcase their skills may want to make graffiti templates. These templates allow you the artist to render similar designs, letters and objects in graffiti at any time, without having to memorize the shapes and produce them by muscle memory.

1
Place a large cardboard or posterboard sheet on a flat surface, like a big table or concrete floor. If you are placing the sheet on something you do not want to damage, lay a sheet of plywood beneath it.
-
2
Using a pencil, draw the shape you want on the sheet. Rework the shape until you have it perfect. To make your edges true, use a T-square; for perfect round corners, use a can or a pencil and string with a tack for the center.

-
3
Darken your shapes using a sharp marker or very sharp pencil, but do not make the lines too thick. Keep them narrow for when you cut out the shape; thick lines will make your cuts crooked and untrue.
-
4
Cut along the lines of your shape, following the dark pencil marks. Curl your wrist to make the blade follow the curves; on perfectly straight lines or curves, use the same device to cut out the shape that you used to draw the lines.
-
5
Remove the shape from the poster board. You should now have a hole of the shape you want in the poster board or cardboard. Apply the poster board or cardboard to a wall and spray-paint in your form.

Tips & Warnings
You can make a graffiti template for shadows. Just cut out the shape of the shadow area, and if you are using cross-hatch marks, cut smaller lines into the posterboard. Or cut a large shape defining the outside edge of the shadow or its darkest area, then leave a lot of space on the other side so you can feather the edge. You can also cut out small sections of letters to make multi-colored graffiti shapes.
