Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Read a lot of poems. Study contest winning poems and those by poets who have had a lot of poetry published. Notice similarities and differences between your own poems and the winning ones.
Step2
Start by submitting to e-zines such as CrossConnect, AlsopReview, MelicReview, or SolHome, or look through the list of e-zines given in PoetryMagic, poetrymachine, and poetrykit.
Step3
Enter poetry contests offered by sites such as Fanstory.com, poetry.com, and writingroom.com. They offer prizes and publication in books and online. You can buy a book with your poem in it, but no purchase is required to be published.
Step4
Join a writing website such as helium.com, writing.com, or chapteread.com that offers feedback from other writers as well as contests and writing tips. Ability to submit articles to magazines is available on some of these sites.
Step5
Subscribe to poetry magazines. Many of them offer contests and online submissions.
