Flickr is a popular web-based photo and video-sharing forum. Flickr is a place to store and organize photos from events, as well as a great place to share those photos with family and friends. One of Flickr's very useful features is the photo group feature. Photo groups allow you to pool your photos from an event or on a common theme with other similar photos on Flickr. You could create a photo group for a family event, such as a wedding, or for a specific subject matter, such as skyscrapers. Photo groups are just one of the popular organizational tools found on Flickr.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide whether you'd like your Flickr photo group to be public, public by invitation only or private. Anyone can join or view photos in a public group. Public by invitation only means that anyone may view the photos in the group, but only those that are invited can contribute photos to the group. Private groups are by invitation only and the photos in the group are also private.

  2. Step 2

Log into your Flickr account. From the front page click on the "Groups" link at the top of the page.

  3. Step 3

Halfway down the groups page, you will see your blue buttons with your choices listed on them: "public," "public by invitation only" and "private." Click on the blue button for the type of group you'd like to create.

  4. Step 4

Enter your group name and a short description of the group. For example, you might create a group called "Amy and John's Wedding" or "North American Skyscrapers". Choose the group safety level (photos are appropriate for all eyes or only for those 18 and older), then click "Next."

  5. Step 5

Next you will be brought to the "group members" page. if you would like you may choose to give specific names or nicknames for group members and their roles. If you leave these fields blank, people joining your group will simply be called "administrators," "members" and "moderators." Click "All done."

  6. Step 6

After your group is created, you will be brought to the "Administration" page where you will find many links to further information about administering a group. From here you will invite group members, control photo submission and manage group discussions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Private groups cannot be made public later. Before you create a private group, be sure you'd like the group to remain private.
