How to Talk Like a Southern Gentleman
Southern gentlemen are chivalrous, polite and accommodating. They compliment, open doors, and always say "please" and "thank you." But, you don't have to be born in the South to pick up the ways of the Southern Gentleman. Read on to learn how to talk like a Southern Gentleman.

Say "Please" when asking for something and "Thank You" when you receive it. Southern gentleman are polite and don't let a moment pass when showing their appreciation for a service or favor granted.

Use "Ma'am" and "Sir" when referring to people of authority or people who are older than you. This shows respect for elders and for those in authority.

Compliment women. If you think they're beautiful or they have pretty eyes, say it. Southern gentlemen are not shy about flattering women and showering them with compliments.

Be polite. Southern Gentleman open doors for women and often ask if they can do something before they do it. For example, at dinner, a Southern gentleman may ask, "Do you mind if I order for you?" Or, if in a car with a woman, he'll say "Let me get the door for you please," and rush to open the woman's door.

Make your date feel comfortable at all times. If it's cold outside, say, "You look cold. Would you like my jacket?" If it's raining, say, " I don't want you to get wet. Let me pull the car around for you. " Go ahead and throw in a compliment while you're at it. This is what Southern gentlemen do.
