How to Reset a Diamond
There can be many reasons for resetting a diamond. It could be that the original setting is broken. Things You'll Need
- Prong (or Claw) setting
- Jeweler's Crimping Pliers
- Jeweler's Vise
- Tweezers
- Magnifying Glass
- Diamond

How to Reset a Diamond

Mount your jeweler's vise on a sturdy surface. Carefully snug your prong setting into the vise with the prongs assessably above the surface of the vise.

Set the diamond in place inside the prongs. Use your magnifying glass to make certain that the diamond is set with the correct side up and level within the setting.

Using your jeweler's crimping pliers, carefully squeeze two opposing sets of prongs together so that they fit snugly around the diamond. Then use your pliers to carefully bend and crimp the other two prongs snugly against the diamond.

Make certain that the prongs are long enough that they are above the girdle (the widest part) of the diamond. By crimping the prongs just above the girdle the diamond will be help firmly in place.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure that the prongs are snugly fit to the diamond, but do not crimp so hard that you chip or fracture your stone.
Diamonds under 2 carats are generally considered too small to be easily set in a prong setting-at least by an amateur.
