Instructions

    • 1

Wash and condition your hair as normal. Those with long, thick hair can skip conditioning to avoid weighing down the hair. Instead, use a hair detangler or spray conditioner. Comb through the hair to distribute the detangler or conditioner evenly before adding styling gel.

    • 2

Dry your hair with a towel to reach a damp consistency. Do not use a hair dryer to dry hair because it will cause the hair to frizz. Apply a styling gel to the damp hair and comb the gel through to distribute it evenly.

    • 3

Section your hair into four equal sections. Separate two sections at the crown of your head -- one section on the right and one section on the left. Separate two sections at the back of your head -- one section on the left and one on the right. Secure each section with a clip or ponytail holder.

    • 4

Release the left section at the top of your crown and comb through the hair. Use a rat-tail comb to gather a small section of hair about the same size as the length of the roller, and comb upward.

    • 5

Hold the tip of the hair with one hand and use the other hand to place the roller at the tip of the hair. Fold the tip of the hair over the curler so the curler will roll downward and the hair is curled toward the back of your head. Roll the curler all the way to your scalp and pin.

    • 6

Pin the curler at the scalp with a curler pin or clip. Repeat the curling process throughout the entire left and right crown section. All the curlers should roll toward the back of your head.

    • 7

Move the back left and right sections. Release one section and curl hair using the same method as the crown.

    • 8

Spray the hair with a light hairspray and allow the curlers to sit on the hair until the hair is completely dry.

    • 9

Remove one curler from the top of your head to judge the wetness before you remove all the curlers. If it is still damp, reroll it and allow the hair to dry longer. If it is dry, remove all the curlers and set them aside.

    • 10

Run your fingers through your hair and style as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spray hair with hairspray to ensure an all-day hold.

  • Smaller curlers will result in smaller, tighter curls.

  • Larger curlers will result in larger, more voluminous waves.

  • Hot rollers are rolled the same way as dry but the hair must be completely dry before curling.
