How to Make Huge Ice Cubes in Home Freezers

It's fairly easy to make large blocks of ice in your home freezer. Though it might seem like a silly project at first, these huge ice cubes are perfect for using in coolers and for chilling big bowls of punch.   • Empty cardboard milk containers

      Finish all of the milk in a cardboard milk container. When it's empty, rinse it out thoroughly.

      Fill the container with water and close it up. Stick it in the freezer for at least 24 hours.

      After enough time has passed, squeeze the sides of the carton to ensure that it's frozen solid. If it is, simply tear the cardboard carton off the ice cube when you're ready to use it. The cube can be lowered directly into large bowls of punch or stacked inside coolers to keep food and beverages cold.

Tips & Warnings

  • You might be able to get the ice cube out without tearing the cardboard: Use a sharp knife or scissors to simply cut the top off the carton, If you're successful, you can re-use the carton to make another ice cube.

  • Be careful not to tear or cut off the carton too soon. These large ice cubes take several hours to freeze solid.
