How to Change the Default Software to Open a Program
Does the wrong software program appear when you wish to open a program? Do you wish you knew what to do when that happens? There are a few different approaches that are really quite simple. Default means that this software will always open the program first before attempting any others. Performing the procedure to change the default software of a program is simple and quick. You do not need to be "computer savvy" to know how to do this.

Click on the image or document you wish to open on your computer. This will cause the program to open with the default software,or often a list will appear asking you which software you would like to use. For example, if it is a music, audio or mp3 file, software like Real Player, Windows Media Player or iTunes will appear if installed on your computer.

Take note of the software currently trying to open the program. If the software allows or shows a "cancel" box, click "cancel" when it tries to open up your photo or video with this default software program.

Right click on the document or image and select "open with" from the menu. Click the software on the list, as this will highlight your choice. If you are unsure, check to see what programs Windows recommends and select this choice from the menu. This will be your new default software program. Make sure the box next to your choice is checked or it will not be saved.

Exit the dialog box and menu and close the software program, photo or document you were trying to open. This will reset your default software program to the new selection.

Restart your computer and then open the same document, photo or software once again. It should open with the new default software program.
