Car engines...they come in the 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, 10cyl and in some of the other high performance and expensive cars and trucks more cylinders than that. It doesn't matter how many cylinders you have there are always some things you can do to improve the power and performance of your car engine. Read on to learn how to increase the power of a car engine.

From Quick Guide: Under the Hood
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a better quality gasoline. First of all, although it is very expensive, you should use a higher octane gas. Using the cheapest gas you can get can cause build up around the intake valves thus decreasing your horsepower significantly. It is recommended that you use a higher octane gas in your car or use octane booster and fuel injection cleaner to help increase the power of your engine.

  2. Step 2

Get oil changes often. Secondly, you should get regular oil changes as recommended by your car manufacturer. Not getting an oil change on time and for every 1,000 miles you wait past your oil change due date can cause build up of sludge that rob your engine of serious horse power. This generally varies among most foreign vehicles; however, you should get an oil change every 3,000 miles or every 90 days which ever comes first.

  3. Step 3

Keep your car engine tuned up. Finally, you should keep your car tuned regularly. If you don't keep your car tuned, you will loose serious horsepower and you may also experience problems with engine skipping as well as difficulty with starting your car. It is recommended that you get your car tuned at least once per year (preferably before the winter season begins) in order to maintain good horsepower.
