"Monopoly" is one of the most popular board games ever. If you don't have a monopoly board, you can make one at home.
Things You'll Need
- White posterboard
- Color copy machine or color printer
Search the Internet for a large picture of the Monopoly game board and print it out. Use this picture to refer to as you create your own game board. It will help you know where to put your pieces. When you are done, you can throw the piece of paper away. It's just a reference tool.
Cut out a perfect square using your cardboard. The square should be 19 1/2 inches on all four sides. This is the size of a real Monopoly board. If you have any trouble cutting the cardboard with your scissors, you may want to use a razor. If you are young, ask your parents to do this.
Get out your piece of white posterboard and cut it to fit exactly on top of your cardboard square. Glue it in place. You don't have to worry about messing it up because squares are the same length all the way around.
Draw each piece of the Monopoly game board yourself on your white board. Use markers so that the pieces stand out and are easily identifiable. Use a ruler to help you create your own squares much easier--and they'll look professional.
Create your own spaces around the board with your ruler. Start with the four corners of the board (Go, In Jail, Free Parking and Go to Jail). These corners should be 2 1/2 inches on all four sides. Then you can fill in the spaces in between, which are 1 1/2 inches wide, but the same 2 1/2 inches tall that the corners are. Each row should have nine spaces in between the two corners.
Fill in all the spaces with your marker. You have your photocopy of the game board to follow. Make sure you get the name, color in the space with the right color, and add the price at the bottom.
Draw your Chance and Community Chest boxes. Make each box 2 1/2 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches wide. Place them in the corners. Chance goes in the corner by the Go box, and Community Chest goes in the corner by the Free Parking box. Refer to your color copy if you aren't sure where to put them.
Write in big letters with your black marker "MONOPOLY" across the middle of the game board.
