If you have a birthday party coming up in your family and you're wondering how you are going to afford everything, consider inexpensive party favors. No birthday party is complete without fun party favors, yet the cost of these items can really add up. You can impact some of your budget, however, by carefully choosing your party favors.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan ahead. If you keep your eyes open throughout the year, you can find fun party favors long before the birthday party rolls around. Buy plenty so you will have enough for an extended guest list if the person of honor decides to invite his or her whole elementary school class.

  2. Step 2

Check out your local dollar store. Dollar stores often have little toys and trinkets for a good price. For instance, you can get some fun costume jewelry and makeup for a middle school girl who is celebrating a birthday, and it will not cost you much at all.

  3. Step 3

Buy generic items if possible. Even if the theme of the party is a licensed character, look for party favors that match the theme but are not licensed characters. This takes a little creativity, but it is entirely possible.

  4. Step 4

Consider shopping online. Sometimes carnival supply companies have small items you can buy in groups of 12 that make great party favors for a birthday party.

  5. Step 5

Consider making something or having the party guests make something that they can take home as their main party favor. This is a great way to save money and have some fun, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that a little goes a long way when it comes to party favors. Children do not need to leave a birthday party with a huge sack of gifts. Find some nice items and sprinkle in some candy in order to make some fairly cheap party favors.
  • Avoid going to "party stores" when looking for inexpensive birthday party favors. The items at these stores are often overpriced and of poor quality.
  • Make sure that you choose party favors that are appropriate for the age of the children who will be attending the party. Do not choose items that are choking hazards.
