How to Start a Fundraiser for Yourself

Raising money for a church group, a missions trip, or even college life may present a challenge to anyone. If you need funds for a special event, or something that will be a one time thing in your life, such as going on an overseas trip with a mission group, here are some ideas to help you raise money.

Instructions

1. Write a letter explaining your trip, needs and ideas.

2. Send your letter, printed on a letterhead with your name, address and phone number to everyone you know. You might also want to send it to organizations that might have a contribution fund that could help you. If the trip is a religious endeavor, send it to churches, religious organizations and ministers you might be familiar with.

3. Set up a website or a blog that people may contribute from. Using Paypal or another internet banking system may enable you to raise more money than you would otherwise. Email links to your site to people you know.

4. Be honest and use integrity in your quest to raise funds. If you are open and honest about what your plans are, you will get more donations.

Tips & Warnings

• In your letter, include what your plans are, how long you will be gone, how much money you need to raise, what it will be used for and when you will be coming back.

• Fundraisers are for the purpose of funding a one time event, not to live off. If you try to solicit funds for living expenses, you are deceiving people. This will make you untrustworthy and not able to get help when you really need it.
