Step 1
Understand the skill level of the child or yourself. Be honest , understanding the talent level goes a long in choosing a league. This doesn't mean limiting them, but make sure the league is a place for success, not failure.
-
Step 2
Ask questions about the league. Find out who the coaches are and talk to them. There are many leagues and many options, so don't settle for second best. Find a league that will teach the basic skills of the game and provide the tools necessary for being a good soccer player.
-
Step 3
Make sure of the sign up date and league fees. All leagues require registration and normally a fee. Missing the set date of registration could leave you out or at the least it will cost a little extra because of a late fee.
-
Step 4
Check out the rules and ages of the players. This is important as most leagues divide players up by age, making the playing field even. As for the rules, ensure the rules are universal so they don't have to be relearned at a later time.
-
Step 5
Check out the playing fields. Playing on a bad surface can cause injury and an unpleasant playing experience. With so many options, the league should be playing games on a viable, safe field.
