Step 1
Buy the correct resin for your project. Because of the chemical process, different combinations of chemicals are used to create the resin depending on what it’s being used for. Do you want to paint it? Add color? Shape it? Sand or file it? Use it with other materials? Mold it? Use it for repairing something? Consult an in-store expert first.
-
Step 2
Follow the mixing instructions closely. Time, proper blending techniques, and correct drying methods all need to be adhered to closely when mixing, shaping and allowing a resin to cure. Don’t just wing it.
-
Step 3
Protect your skin. You don’t want to absorb the resin chemicals through your skin–your hands are the most porous parts of your body. Buy cheap thin latex gloves (100 pairs per box) like you see used in a dentist’s office at your local drug store. Dispose of them when done.
-
Step 4
Protect the work area. Put down newspaper or a plastic tablecloth prior to starting to work with resin to protect your work area from spills. Resin can be challenging to clean up.
-
Step 5
Work in a well-ventilated area. The fumes released when mixing and working with resins are not something you want to inhale.
