Locate the nearest strawberry field near you. Farms can be close together, but they are only located in certain parts of the country. Most people select the location that is closest to them just because it is convenient. If you are meeting a bunch of people, you may want to select a place to pick strawberries that is in between.

Find out when their strawberry picking season is going to be. Usually it is only a matter of ten days up to two weeks. It all depends how good the crop was that year. You can look them up in the phone book, but now a days you can find a website with the information. The best time to pick strawberries is somewhere around 4-5 days into their picking season for the best berries.

Arrive at the strawberry patch early. The theory of the early bird getting the worm is really true. Popular patches can be picked out as early as noon, and most of them open around 7a.m. It will take you a couple of hours to pick strawberries so you want to make sure you get up early so that you can get the strawberries you want.

Bring a small rug or beach towel to kneel on. Some patches have straw in their rows but it can still be hard on the knees and your pants can get dirty quite quickly. Your time picking strawberries will be a lot more enjoyable when you are not in pain.

Bring your pails and have a lot of fun. You will want to check with your local strawberry patch to see if they provide buckets as well as how much they charge per pound of strawberries you pick. It’s a great opportunity to get friends and family together and pick strawberries. The best part about it is going home with your fresh fruit and making delicious desserts and jams.
