Relationships take time to form and those involved have to be willing to work in order to keep the relationship going. Whether it’s a platonic or romantic relationship, each party has to put forth the effort to make the relationship work. If you want to keep a relationship, here are some things you should do.

1
Communicate often. All relationships need open and honest communication in order to work. If one or both people are not communicating in their relationship, the relationship is bound to fail. Communicating includes talking, listening, and understanding each other’s personal needs. By communicating, each person is aware of what is expected of them and where they want the relationship to go.

2
Spend time together. People in relationships go out on dates, take vacations, and generally enjoy each other’s company. Do things that both of you enjoy doing together and introduce each other to new things. Spending time together helps you to get to know each other and learn each other’s likes and dislikes.

3
Take some time to yourself. Even though you’re in a relationship, you’re not going to want to spend every moment together. Do things separately like go out with friends or engage in some of your individual hobbies. Time away from each other gives each of you space so you don’t start to feel crowded.
-
4
Don’t cheat on each other. Being unfaithful in a relationship is guaranteed to cause many problems. When you cheat on your spouse or partner, it breaks the trust between the two of you as well as causes them a great deal of hurt. While some relationships rattled with infidelity survive, others end because of it. If you want to keep your relationship, stay faithful to your partner.

5
Address any problems you may be having with your relationship. Some people attend counseling to help them to work through problems that are affecting the relationship. If there are intimacy issues or any other problems in your relationship, don’t go looking to solve them with someone else unless you’re willing to risk ending the relationship. Talk to your partner about whatever problems you are having and work out a way to address the problems together.
-
6
Learn how to compromise. A relationship requires equal work and effort from those involved. There will be times when you have to compromise in order to make things better for both of you. You have to learn how to give and take. Whatever you put in to a relationship is what you’re going to get back.

7
Appreciate each other. Show your love to your partner every day. Celebrate all of the good things about your relationship. Each person in the relationship should feel loved. Try to highlight the positives in your relationship and work towards creating more happy memories.
