Insects and their larvae can do damage to your fruit tree, from eating the foliage to spoiling the fruit. Fortunately, you don't have to resort to harsh, harmful chemicals to protect your fruit trees from nasty critters like moths and fruit flies.

From Quick Guide: DIY Bug Repellent
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gallon-size plastic jug
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 banana peels
  • Twine or sturdy cord
  • Craft knife or similar cutting tool
  1. Step 1

Slice off the top quarter of the plastic jug using the craft knife or scissors. Punch four holes near each corner of the jug so that you will be able to hang it with the twine or cord.

  2. Step 2

Measure the sugar and vinegar into the jug and stir it well.

  3. Step 3

Slice the banana peels into thin strips and place them in the jug with the vinegar mixture.

  4. Step 4

Pour the water into the jug and stir until thoroughly combined.

  5. Step 5

Cut two lengths of twine and thread through the holes in the plastic jug in a criss-cross formation. Hang the jug from your fruit tree. Bugs will be attracted to the scent and meet their demise in the vinegar mixture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Replace the repellent when you notice multiple bugs in it, or if you have had recent rains, as it will become less potent.
