Like most states, Tennessee has a compulsory school attendance law for students. That means that if you want to homeschool your child, you must follow the state's homeschool laws. Here's how to find those laws so that you can homeschool legally in the state of Tennessee.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the Tennessee Department of Education website for up-to-date laws on homeschooling.

  2. Step 2

Consult a national or local homeschooling organization that can help you interpret the laws. A good place to state is the Home School Legal Defense Fund.

  3. Step 3

Seek the advise of a Tennessee attorney, especially if you have unique circumstances associated with your homeschooling request. An attorney can make sure that everything is done legally so that you don't have any problems later.

  4. Step 4

Speak with other parents who are already homeschooling. They can help you understand the laws or provide you with information about different organizations or attorneys that can help you.

  5. Step 5

Make sure that you are reading the most current law. Some Internet sites are outdated and may give you advice that is not consistent with current law.
