What's a Knol, you ask? According to Google, a knol is "an authoritative article about a specific topic". Think of this new feature as Google's answer to an online encyclopedia. Anyone can contribute to Knol by following Google's guidelines. And just like articles at eHow, your Knol articles can earn income. Here's how to make the most of Google Knol.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Head to Google Knol at knol.google.com (the Resource section includes a direct link). Their homepage will give you a quick feel for the diversity of the site, with articles on everything from backpacking to diabetes.

  2. Step 2

Take a look at the Knol intro page. Here you'll find everything you'll need for getting started with Knol. You can use it as a reference site, or if the spirit moves you, you can contribute a knol on any topic of your choosing.

Articles at Knol are html based, and can include formatting, images, tables, and other options.

  3. Step 3

Decide your level of control Unlike Wikipedia, any knol you write stays under your editorial control, unless you opt to open the editing to the broader public. Others can comment on your article, but only you get to decide who can edit the text.

  4. Step 4

Monetize, if you want to. Knol allows authors to place context-relevant Adsense ads on their articles. Currently, all income generated from the ads is returned to the author (there is no extra 'cut' taken by Knol). This seems an excellent way of earning additional cash on the internet.

on 11/1/2009 I found this article by doing a google search to find out how much you can earn writing a knol. Thanks for the information explaining that writers have control over the adsense ads and keep 100% of the revenues.
