How to Become an Army Nurse

The U.S. Army is in desperate need of quality nurses. Because of this need, they are currently investing a lot of money in recruiting nurses. Whether you are thinking about a career in nursing, or already are a nurse, the Army wants you.

      Get accepted to a nursing degree program.

      Talk with your campus' ROTC program director about nursing scholarships and ROTC opportunities. The ROTC offers two-year, three-year and four-year nursing scholarships, however, in order to qualify for them you will need to join the ROTC. If selected, you will have your nursing career paid for and you will be given the opportunity to train at an Army medical center in the U.S. or in Germany.

      Complete one or more Nursing Summer Programs put on by the Army. During these training programs you will work with one of the many international Army medical centers in the U.S. and Germany. These programs last about three weeks and you will get paid for your work.

      Earn your nursing degree and decide how you want to continue your nursing career in the Army--as a Reservist or as a commissioned officer of the U.S. Army.

      Enlist in the Army nursing program that you are interested in. Start your new career as an Army nurse.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are already a nurse you can talk to an Army recruiter about joining the regular Army or the Army Reserves as a nurse at an elevated rank.
