How to Create, Name and Insert Custom Text Fields into Forms in Yahoo SiteBuilder

As technology advances, user-friendly website builder programs are becoming more feature-rich. In the past, these programs offered limited functionality. As the software has continuously improved, though, more and more features have been included in website builder programs, and Yahoo SiteBuilder is one of the many options that includes many of these easy-to-use features. Among the many useful features found in Yahoo SiteBuilder is the ability to create custom contact and submission forms with custom text fields, allowing for total website customization.

      Open and run the application. You will need to left-click on the application icon in order to run the program. If you do not have a copy of this program you can download a free copy (see Resources below).

      Open the website that you wish to add custom text fields into. To open a website that you wish to add custom text fields into, you will need to left-click on the “File” tab on the command bar in SiteBuilder. Scroll to “Open Site” and left-click; enter the desired file and click “Open.”

      Open the page that you wish to insert custom text fields into. To open the desired page, scroll to the “File” tab on the command bar and select “Open Page.” Browse to the desired page and click “Open.”

      Create the custom form. You will need a form to do this. You can easily add a custom form by scrolling to the “Insert” tab on the command bar and selecting “Forms and Form Elements,” then left-click on “Blank Form.” Click “OK” to insert the form. The form will appear as a box with a dashed border, there will be no form elements inside of it until you add them.

      Add custom text fields to forms and name them. To add custom text fields to your form, you will need to left-click on the form to activate it. Scroll to the “Insert” tab on the command bar and select “Forms and Form Elements.” A submenu will open, so scroll to “Text Field” and left-click and a text field properties box will open. There are several options inside of the text field properties box. The “General” tab will allow you to name the text field under “Name” and set the default text under “Default Text.” You can also make the field a required field by checking the “Require Field” box. Under the “Form Settings” tab, you can specify the delivery email address, the confirmation page after form submission and the error page. Finally, the “Coordinates” tab will allow you implement precise coordinates for display of the check box on the Web page. Choose the desired text field options and then click “OK” to insert the custom text field into the form.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add as many custom text fields as you like to any form. You can drag-and-drop the fields where desired within the form.

  • Always test your website by using the hot key “F12” to see what it will look like when published without actually publishing your website yet.
