How to Display Jewelry as Art
Jewelry items that have been handmade are really miniature works of art, and, as such, deserve to be displayed. Doing so will give the owner the pleasure of seeing the pieces on a day-to-day basis rather than only when they are picked out of a drawer to be worn. In addition, a display of jewelry can become a focal point on a coffee table, in a curio cabinet or on the wall. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Gather together pieces which share a common color. Perhaps you have a selection, for example, of various red items (pins, earrings or necklaces) in various styles. The unifying element of the color will be enough to tie these pieces together and turn them into an interesting display. Simply lay them out on a silk scarf or linen napkin atop a coffee table or bookshelf.

2
Look for artist-made jewelry holders, which are, in themselves, works of art. For example, if you go to etsy.com and search for “jewelry display,” you will find a variety of different artfully designed items created for the purpose of jewelry display (see Resources below).

3
Ask artists you encounter at art fairs or galleries if they have created any works intended to be displayed as one entity, perhaps work they have created on a particular theme. For example, at projectiveart.com, if you click on “Other” and then “Grimm’s Fairy Tale Pins” and scroll down, you will see how the artist has framed a display of the pins he created on a fairy tale theme (see Resources below).

4
Check out professional displays which you can find at such sites as retailpackaging.com (see Resources below). Self-standing black velvet boards are especially appealing as they compliment almost any piece of jewelry. Try a display of 5 or 6 of these across a mantle or on top of a bookshelf.

Utilize a lampshade to display beaded necklaces. Simply loop them over the shade where they will land at different spots according to their length. You may have to wrap the longer ones around twice. If you use dozens of these, the effect will almost appear to be a beaded shade.

Hang a simple sheer curtain over a window and let it serve as a display for every pin you own. Attach them in a random pattern starting at the middle of the curtain and working your way both up and down to achieve a coordinated appearance. The sunlight streaming through the window will make the metals and stones gleam, providing a great conversation piece.
