When working with oil-based paints, there is always the possibility of getting some of the paint on your skin. Don't panic! While just plain soap and water will not remove the oil-based paint, you can always use turpentine. Be careful when using this toxic substance, and never let a child do this process alone. Your skin won't be permanently pink if you are painting that Barbie house, but you should take action as soon as possible to remove the paint from your skin.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean Rag
  • Turpentine
  • Soap
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Moisten the clean rag with turpentine. There is no need to saturate it, but it should be wet with turpentine.

  2. Step 2

Rub the painted area with the moistened rag in a circular motion.

  3. Step 3

Repeat steps 1 and 2 if there are still traces of paint, using a new moistened rag each time.

  4. Step 4

Wash hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat entire process if necessary.

  6. Step 6

Let your hands lie under running water for a couple of minutes before handling any food or dishes after exposure to turpentine. This is in addition to step 4.

  • Cap the turpentine immediately to prevent fumes.
  • Use turpentine in a well-ventilated area.

  • Keep your hands away from your eyes when using turpentine.
  • Never allow a child to use turpentine alone.
  • Make sure you are not allergic to turpentine before using it.
