Arthur, Illinois, is located in the heart of central Illinois and Amish country. With a lot of Amish heritage, community, and plenty of homemade Amish foods, this little country town is booming with tourism. Arthur is also a great small town to live and raise a family in. With plenty of peaceful evenings that are great for nighttime walks, and many stores uptown, there's a lot to see in this tiny little town. And once you've come, you're only a stranger once--as the town slogan says.

  1. Step 1

Plan a trip during Labor Day weekend to the Arthur Cheese Festival. Get a chance to eat free cheese and crackers. Arthur is known for it's homemade cheese and was once home to one of the biggest cheese-making factories. You can also browse handmade crafts, see great live music entertainment, and a parade for the children as well.

Browse the shops up on Vine Street. Check out the Buggie Wheel where you can try samples of homemade fudge, purchase Amish-made noodles, jam, salsas, and more. You can even buy antiques and crafts there. If you are looking for Amish made furniture, visit the woodworking store to find rocking chairs, beds, and any other pieces of handmade furniture. You can special order here, too.

  3. Step 3

Eat at Yoders Country Kitchen. It is the best place in town for Amish home country cooking. They have a daily buffet filled with fried chicken, Amish made noodles, potatoes, green beads, and more. You can order off the menu as well. Come in for breakfast, lunch , or dinner. It is a wonderful restaurant for the entire family.

  4. Step 4

Get cozy at Marsha’s Vineyard and stay over for a night or two. The bed and breakfast was built in 2000 by an Amish contractor. There are two suites that have a kitchen , private baths, television, VCR, and central air. Feel at home in their country style like decorated loft, or spend some peaceful outside time on the outside patio.
