1
Choose shoes that are already broken in and comfortable. People are going to be taking pictures left and right, whether they are candid shots of you or posed. The last thing that you want is to have a look of pain in every picture that you’re in. You don’t want to have to hobble around in pain through the ceremony.

2
Choose shoes that have a proper heel. If your graduation ceremony is outside on grass, wearing a tall, thin heel is not a great idea because you can easily get stuck in the grass with every step that you take. If you’re walking indoors for your graduation ceremony, you can wear heels as long as they are comfortable. Even if they’re broken in, scuff the bottoms with a rough rock just to give them a better traction.

Pick out an outfit that is made from light fabrics, and avoid hot and heavy ones. Considering you’re going to be wearing a graduation gown over your clothes, you don’t want to get overheated and sweaty. Even if it’s chilly outside, you’re going to be anxious, excited and possibly nervous which will also make you feel hotter.

Look for an outfit that's semi-formal. You don't have to find something incredibly fancy, but a t-shirt and shorts are too casual. Even if you find a simple white shirt and a black skirt, you can always dress it up a bit with accessories.

Try the outfit on in the store. Walk around in it to see how it moves with your body. It should be just the right fit. You don't want to have to tug or pull on the fabric to make it fit better. Find an outfit you feel comfortable in.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to work your outfit with the color of your graduation gown. If you are wearing a light colored graduation gown such as white or yellow, it is best to wear clothing underneath that isn't dark so that it won't show through.
Stay away from light colored clothes that are prone to picking up and severely showing sweat marks. Silk is one fabric that will pick up the littlest amount of sweat.
