How to Refill Printer Cartridges on a Canon S600
When printer cartridge refill kits first appeared on the market, much of the ink was low quality and not designed to work as universally as advertised. Times have changed however, and ink refill kits are now available with high quality ink that is made for specific printers. They are also fairly easy to use. Here's how to refill printer cartridges on a Canon S600 printer.
Things You'll Need
- Ink refill kit for Canon S600
- Latex gloves
- Old newspaper
- Wet wipes, paper towel or an old rag
- Melted candle wax or candle taper

1
Prepare your work area. Put down old newspapers to protect your desk or work surface. Open the ink refill kit and set out the items you will be using. Put the latex gloves, wet wipes or damp paper towels within easy reach. Attach the needle to the syringe (if not already attached) and fill with the color of ink you are replacing. Place the filled syringe within easy reach.

2
Remove the sealing ball on the ink cartridge. Wearing the latex gloves, place your finger over the outlet hole on the cartridge. The outlet hole is the marble-sized hole where the ink leaves the cartridge and goes to the printer. On the opposite side of the cartridge, locate the sealing ball. You may need to peel the label back a little to reveal it. Using the tool provided in the kit, or straightened paper clip if no tool was provided, push the sealing ball into the cartridge.

3
Fill the cartridge with ink. With your finger still over the outlet hole, insert the needle of the syringe into the hole where you just removed the sealing ball. Push gently on the syringe plunger and fill the cartridge with ink.

4
Seal the cartridge. Keeping your finger over the outlet hole, carefully place a drop of melted wax on the hole where you inserted the syringe needle. This hole must be sealed for the ink cartridge to function properly. A lighted taper candle works well for this part of the process. Simply let a small amount of wax melt, then blow the candle out and quickly but carefully tip the candle above the cartridge, allowing a drop of wax to fall on the hole. Be careful not to touch the wax, it is very hot. Return the cartridge to the printer and you are done. Use the wet wipes or paper towels to clean up any dripped, spilled or smeared ink on your skin or the cartridge.

Tips & Warnings
Run the printer cleaning cycle after refilling your ink cartridge to get clear, sharp print quality.
Be careful not to overfill the ink cartridge. Overfilled cartridges tend to leak and print poorly. Don't force more ink into the cartridge if it is full.
