Luminaries for Easter bring a festive atmosphere to a patio or porch and a splash of light to walkways or rock gardens. Easter luminaries are a delight to watch as they flicker in the cool spring nights. Children can make these luminaries if there is an adult present, making this a family project to celebrate spring.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 small brown paper bags
  • Easter stencils
  • Craft knife or paper scissors
  • Little colored Easter stickers
  • Glitter pen or markers
  • 12 small tea candles
  • 6 cups play sand
  1. Step 1

Draw on each of the paper bags using the Easter stencil, keeping the drawings on the upper part of the paper bag. Using the craft knife or scissors, cut the stencils out of the bag taking care not to cut the sides of the bags.

  2. Step 2

Write "Happy Easter" on the bags with glitter pen or markers to add a decorative touch for daylight viewing. Add colored Easter stickers.

  3. Step 3

Fill each bag with 1/2 cup of sand, and shake the bag a bit to make the sand spread out. Set one tea candle in each bag.

  4. Step 4

Prepare the area in which you will set your luminaries. This can be an area of a sidewalk or a rock garden, just make sure they are set out of the immediate area where they might be knocked over, and on a level surface.

  5. Step 5

Light the tea candles within the bags as the last of the light disappears from the sky at nightfall and enjoy the flicking romance of the luminaries.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure these Easter luminaries are set on a flat surface so they do not tip over and begin a fire.
