Instructions

    • 1

Saw 2 by 4 planks or other similar wood planks into 12 equal pieces. Lay 4 pieces of wood on the ground in a frame structure (creating a perfect box). Drill a hole into each corner. Screw your screws into each hole so you are left with a picture-frame-like bottom layer. Duplicate this process and create another picture-frame-like box structure. This will be the top of the box.

    • 2

Take a plank and hold it up vertically on one of the corners. Screw it to the bottom of the frame. Repeat with all four corners so you have a base with four posts. Screw the top frame onto the four posts sticking up. You will be left with a box frame.

    • 3

Wrap chicken wire around the box sides. Secure it by using your pliers to form it around the box and then attaching the eyehooks to hold the ends in place. You can also add a few screws to tack the wire in place even more. Wire the bottom of the trap the same way. Then take your remaining four pieces of wood and create another picture-frame-like structure.

    • 4

Place this final structure on top of the box. Attach two hinges to one edge. Screw them onto both the side of the frame and the box. Chicken wire the top. Tie a piece of nylon rope to each corner of the box. Bring the four strings together in the center and tie a knot. Attach another piece of nylon rope to the knot on top. This will be so you can pull the trap out of the water.

    • 5

Use wirecutters to cut a hole on one side of the box. It needs to be large enough for crabs to crawl through. Then create a funnel so the hole becomes smaller and the crabs won't be able to crawl back out if the crevice. That's it! Good luck crabbing!
