The main cause of inkjet problems is dried ink on the nozzles of the printhead. Regular cleaning of these printheads can make your Epson printer run smoothly. This can normally be done through running the clean and align function on the printer. Sometimes this does not work as well as you need it to and manual cleaning of the ink jet cartridge is necessary. Here's how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the inkjet cartridge from the printer and place it on a white piece of paper in front of you.

  2. Step 2

Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol. You will want to squeeze out any excess rubbing alcohol.

  3. Step 3

Gently stroke the head of the cartridge with the dampened Q-tip.

  4. Step 4

Continue to repeat this process until each cartridge is cleared of the dried ink buildup.

  5. Step 5

Place the inkjet cartridges back in the printer and run the Clean and Align program on your Epson 440 printer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sometimes the buildup is too severe and cannot be manually removed.
