Dog collars are getting becoming more of a fashion piece. Collars don't always come in a fabric that you like or holiday collars are expensive. Make your own dog collar covers that have so much personality and collar you will surprise yourself and you happy pet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric
  • thread
  • sewing machine or needlt to hand sew.
  1. Step 1

Buy fabric or find some fabric that you like for your pet. Bandana, old shirts, or any kind of fabric that catches you eye. I love to use old bedding like a pillow case.

  2. Step 2

Measure the collar you wish to cover. first width and then length.

  3. Step 3

Cut fabric into a strip. 3 times the width of the measurement. And 1 1/2 times the length. If you want the collar to more ruffled like add length to the strip of fabric.

  4. Step 4

Fold fabric in half length way. Iron.

  5. Step 5

Sew down the length of the open side. DO NOT sew the open ends. Hand sew if you do not have a sewing machine. KEEP in mind this is for the pet not a piece of clothing that you will wear. Quick and easy seam is all that is needed.

  6. Step 6

Turn fabric right side out and push old collar through the fabric tube. Just cut off extra fabric if it ruffles up to much like a clown collar for your taste.

  7. Step 7

Refasten collar on you family pet and now you have a new look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Products like seam a seam and fabric glue and hot glue gun. All of these techniques off a seam but may not hold very long depending on the activity of your pet.

on 9/2/2008 Cute idea. And if you used glow in the dark material, it could be a good safety color to boot. ;)
