Things You'll Need:
- local tourist pamplets/magazines or
- online search or
- maybe a trip to the library
-
Step 1
The first thing to do is is consider the places one already knows of nearby his/her location. If any beach, park, museum, historical landmark, tourist attraction, etc., sounds like a good destination to spend the day, consider it.
-
Step 2
Also try picking up tourism guides--pamphlets/magazines--from any local information booths or nearby gas station. This should provide a good variety of information on a good assortment of local tourist destinations.
-
Step 3
Try an online search of the local cities within an hour's drive away from the local neighborhood. Parks, museums, and other assorted attractions may be found online on local city websites, Mapquest, online yellow pages, Yahoo, Google, a website of someone who knows local travel destinations, and more will help a person find destinations of interest.
-
Step 4
A library may also help find information on local attractions or places to visit. They are likely to have information on local landmarks and a good deal have online access for card holders.
-
Step 5
Consider the cost of the place chosen for the trip. If it is within in the budget of the family, go for it, otherwise reconsider. A state park is likely within the budget as all it usally costs is an entry fee and other parks are free. Museums can also be free.
-
Step 6
Enjoy the trip. I went on a local vacation and enjoyed it very much. It is suprising how enjoyable local destinations can be!
