Things You'll Need:
- Time with your partner
- An open mind
- Creativity
-
Step 1
Discuss your ideal honeymoon in broad terms. Discuss whether your honeymoon vision includes you and your spouse lounging poolside with frothy beverages or if visiting three countries in a whirlwind nonstop adventure is more your style. Agreement on the type of honeymoon you will be taking is key.
-
Step 2
Honestly assess the amount of time you will have for your honeymoon. If it is a busy time at work, (think tax season, holiday rush, upcoming trial date), is it really feasible for you to be away from work for three weeks...even if you take your Blackberry with you? Plan your vacation accordingly, and consider taking a brief honeymoon immediately following your wedding and a more grand honeymoon a few months after your nuptials. There isn't a rule that your elaborate honeymoon has to immediately follow the wedding ceremony.
-
Step 3
Determine your budget. Although a 14 day Mediterranean cruise in a balcony room may sound spectacular, before you say "bon voyage," make sure it is the right honeymoon for your pocketbook. If you have your heart set on a particular destination that may be a little out of your price range, adjust your timing so your trip is fewer days, mid-week, or the week after peak season, reserve a less expensive room (standard vs. suite), or a different room location in the hotel (garden vs. ocean view).
-
Step 4
Brainstorm possible locations that match your honeymoon dream. Inquire of family and friends, research destinations on the internet or consult a travel agent. Be creative and try to keep your options open.
-
Step 5
Select a location and begin planning. Explore lodging and travel alternatives, including packages, leisure and dining options that your destination may offer. Research airfare and country requirements, such as visas or vaccinations, as necessary.
-
Step 6
Get excited about your honeymoon. Spending time together and celebrating your new status as a married couple is what your honeymoon is all about!
