Jeans shopping falls a close second behind the dread of swimsuit shopping. With so many colors and styles available, you can easily spend hours maneuvering through racks of jeans in the quest to find your perfect fit. A little preparation can make the process a little smoother, and have you find the perfect pair (or two) with limited trauma.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • Access to the Internet to investigate styles & inventory in stores
  1. Step 1

Identify your price point. Do you want to spend $20 or $200? Is your personal price negotiable if you find the perfect pair?

  2. Step 2

Determine the color and fabric of jean you aim to find. Do you want a light blue, dark blue, in-between hue, red, white, or one pair of each? Does material matter to you, such as an all-cotton or do you prefer a small amount of spandex to better hug your curves?

  3. Step 3

Narrow down your waist style. Many waist style options exist -- high waist, low-rise, medium low-rise. Your selection may depend upon your age, body type and where you plan to wear your jeans most often. If you plan to wear your jeans to work on casual Friday's, is super low-rise appropriate?

  4. Step 4

Choose your ideal jeans length. Do you want ankle or trouser pants? Will you wear your jeans most often with high heels or flats? Again, maybe you'll need two pairs.

  5. Step 5

Select your preferred bottom cut. The options are endless. To name a few, skinny, boot cut, straight cut, flared, slightly flared, cuffed. There is a lot to think about when selecting a style.

  6. Step 6

Consider whether you want a design on your jeans. Do you desire specialized stitching, frays, holes, appliques or patterns of studs? Are belt loops or a particular number of pockets important to you?

  7. Step 7

After you have determined the type of jeans you're searching for, determine where you should shop to find your perfect pair. Are you most likely to find what you want at a department store, boutique, specialty jeans store, on the internet?

  8. Step 8

You are ready to shop! You know what type of jeans you want, so enlist a friend, and off you go!

Tips & Warnings
  • When trying on jeans, don't get hung up on size. No one will know if you're wearing a 10 or 12, or 25 or 27. Wear what fits and looks best!
  • Don't forget the importance of comfort!
  • Try not to focus on length. A good tailor can shorten jeans and resew the hem without losing the look of the original stitching.
