Step 1
Get a toddler bed. If you make the toddler a part of the process, you might end up with a child who is far more interested in the bed. If possible, allow the toddler to help pick out the bed. Offer interesting choices like a toddler race car toddler bed or a sports toddler bed. Little Tykes toddler beds are in fun shapes and in bright colors that toddlers love. Race car toddler beds and fire engine toddler beds are fun and compact and will fit in even the smallest room. A larger room might fit a toddler train bed.

Step 2
Choose the toddler bedding. Even if the toddler bed is plain, getting toddler bedding that interests the child will make it much more inviting. Choose a favorite character for the bedding. There are many toddler bedding sets available on Overstock.com as well as eBay for reasonable prices. Baby stores often carry toddler bedding as well. Make sure to choose a type that goes with your toddler bed. For instance, a race car toddler bed does not use a dust ruffle because of the high sides.

Step 3
Keep the crib in the room for awhile. If the toddler feels like he is the one making the choice, he will be much more likely to want to sleep in the toddler bed. He may not choose it for awhile, but after looking at it and getting used to it for a few days or weeks, he will likely want to start sleeping in it. Once he becomes more interested in the toddler bed than the crib, remove the crib from the room and congratulate the toddler on becoming a big kid.
