Ebooks are everywhere, and the convenience and time saving information they offer make them more popular as each day goes by. Ready to write your own? Read this first.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • home computer
  • stock photography
  • membership with an affiliate network
  • website with merchant capabilities
  1. Step 1

Create a chapter outline for your ebook before you even come up with a name for the publication. Why? Because you will have limited writing space (ebooks are generally much shorter than print books) and you may find yourself needing to adjust the title to fit the main highlights, rather than one broad idea.

  2. Step 2

Create content with your word processor that is concise, to the point, and doesn't demand too much time from the reader. Writing ebooks is not like writing print books. Readers want to be able to retrieve their information fast in most cases (unless you are a creative writer as oppossed to a technical writer). Keep it short.

  3. Step 3

Purchase stock photography rights from a website such as www.istockphotography.com to use throughout the ebook (this is usually very inexpensive).

  4. Step 4

When writing your ebook, make sure that it contains a main title page, an index (very important), chapters of fairly equal length, and all copyright information.

  5. Step 5

Save your ebook as a PDF file and prepare to sell it. One of the fastest ways to sell an ebook is to join an affiliate network and allow other business owners to add your link to their websites, newsletters, blogs, etc., in exchange for a percentage of the profits they bring in from their links (not only will this boost sales, but it will also help increase your search engine rankings).

  6. Step 6

Finally, create a sales page for your ebook on your website (or just create a website that does nothing but promote your ebook). Develop a list of keywords to use as you promote this ebook that a unique market niche will be entering into search engines, and wait a few weeks for the major search engines to crawl your site and begin promoting your work automatically.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make your ebook more interesting by adding your brand's color scheme to borders, text, ect.
  • If possible, create a logo to use on all of your work that can be published with your ebook. This will help readers develop a level of trust with you as the author, giving you an added boost of credibility.
  • Be sure to protect your work before putting it on the market by having it copyrighted immediately.
