This article will describe how to write a simple code. Your kids will love to "break" the code!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pencil/Pen
  • Paper

Step1
Begin by deciding what you would like to write. I suggest something simple at first.
Step2
Write out what you would like to write and leave spaces in between the lines for creating your code.
Step3
Use the following as a guide: Leave all consonants the same. Replace all vowels with the consonant that follows that vowel in the alphabet.
Step4
Vowel Replacements would be as follows:
A = B
E = F
I = J
O = P
U = V
Step5
Sample message:

Lunch will be at noon in the kitchen.

Code message:

Lvnch wjll bf bt nppn jn thf kjtchjn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you've mastered a simple code you can create your own variations, including numbers and/or symbols.
  • We used this simple code during a treasure hunt with our kids -- they not only loved the treasure hunt, but the challenge of breaking the code made it so much more fun!
