Bake yummy sugar cookies at home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2/3 cup shortening or butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 3 1/4 cups of flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large bowls
  • Mixer
  • Baking sheet
  • Conventional oven
  1. Step 1

    In a large bowl, cream the shortening and the sugar.

  2. Step 2

    Slowly stir in the eggs, extract, and milk.

  3. Step 3

    In the other bowl, mix the dry ingredients.

  4. Step 4

    Now add the dry ingredients to the large bowl of creamed items.

  5. Step 5

    Mix with mixer until combined. With hands, shape dough into a ball.

  6. Step 6

    Wrap ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
    After this 'cooling down' period, your dough will be ready to bake with.

  7. Step 7

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  8. Step 8

    Lightly grease cookie sheets.

  9. Step 9

    Roll out your dough on a lightly floured surface.

  10. Step 10

    With floured cookie cutters, cut into shapes. Reroll trimmings and cut.

  11. Step 11

    Place cookies 1/2 inch apart on cookie sheets.

  12. Step 12

    Bake 8 minutes or until very light brown.

  13. Step 13

    Remove cookies from oven and place them on racks to cool.

Tips & Warnings
  • For crisp cookies, roll dough, paper thin.
  • For softer cookies, roll your dough about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Baking pan will be hot after 8 min. in the oven. Be careful!
