A mojito is a tasty Cuban cocktail that has seen a recent surge in popularity. It's sweet and refreshing citrus taste help mask the taste of the rum.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fresh mint leaves (Spearmint)
  • Bitters
  • Limes
  • Ice
  • Mojito glass
  • Shaker tin
  • White Rum
  • Guarapo
  • Muddler
  • Club soda
  1. Step 1
    Mint leaves, remove from stem.

    You will need to pick the mint leaves off the stem and place into a bowl. You will need 5 to 6 mint leaves per mojito. Best if you use spearmint.

    Cut some limes into quarters, you will need 4 of these quarters per mojito.

    Use your muddler and muddle 5-6 mints leaves and 3 lime quarters, along with 3 drops of bitters in the bottom of a mojito glass.

    Fill the glass with ice. All the way to the top. Use cubed Ice and not crushed.

    Your favorite white / light rum

    Add 2 ounces of white / light rum. This should leave the glass being about 3/4 full.

    Add 2 tablespoons of guarapo, then top off with club soda.

  7. Step 7

    Place your shaker tin over the top of the glass and shake vigorously for about 5 seconds. Garnish with a lime.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try different flavored rums for a different taste. Bicardi Limon is a favorite of mine.
  • To maintain flavor, make sure you use ice cubes instead of crushed ice.
  • When muddling do not rip or shred the mint leaves, the idea is to crush the leaf enough to release the mint oils inside.
  • If you do not have a muddler, you can use the back of a spoon instead.
