's for staying alert

Whether it's a student in class or an adult in church, staying alert or awake can be quite a daunting task. Somethings work sometimes, and others no luck. We try silly things, but the feeling of falling asleep when we need to be alert is known to all.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • imagination
  • luck
  1. Step 1

First and foremost, a good night's sleep is needed every night. Most people need seven or eight hours of sleep.

  2. Step 2

Eating something in the mornings makes people more alert and gives them energy for the morning. It doesn't have to be bacon and eggs, but cookies are not a substitute. Cereal, fruit, milk, juice, coffee,
bagel, toast ... even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for kids or adults is better than nothing to jump start your day.

  3. Step 3

When that oh so familiar feeling starts, think of something exciting. Stimulate the brain with an experience that stimulated you.

Listen even more intently to what is being said in the classroom or wherever you are. Stay involved in the activity or whatever is taking place.

  4. Step 4

Squirming is probably not acceptable, but adjust the way you are sitting. Uncross legs, straighten your back, don't place you hand to hold your head up, and try to make yourself less comfortable. Think about the brownies you may be having later.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're with a friend, ask to be nudged or poked with an elbow!
  • The best advise is "good luck."
  • None of the suggestions are scientifically proven or tested. But hopefully they'll help.
