When it comes to divorce, I must be some kind of expert. I have, after all, had 2 of them. Here are some tips that have helped through the last 8 months, and are still helping.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Will Power
  • Patience
  • Friends
  • A Little Money
  • A Sense of Humor
  • Self Control

Your will power can be the brightest thing you have in these dark times...

Put your will power to work. The first few weeks of waking up alone can be pretty taxing. You're going to be worn down, broken down, beaten down. Get a firm grip on your self and take control. If you spend too much time looking at what went wrong you won't get the opportunity to take care of your self or other important matters. Determination is key when it comes to working past the negatives.

  2. Step 2

Be patient. It took a while for things to fall apart and fixing it for yourself will take even longer. You can't go back and undo the divorce but you can work to correct some of your mistakes. Just remember that it won't happen over night. It may even look more and more bleak before it makes a turn for the better. Being calm and patient will help you to win out in the end.

  3. Step 3

Friends are the best thing you can count on at this point in life. True friends, solid friends, will lift you up and be there for you every moment that you need them. Make sure to be around them because they truly do love you and are your support network. Just don't over-do it. You could "overstay your welcome" if you are a little too needy.

  4. Step 4

Try something different. For me, it was buying a motorcycle. For some people it can be as simple as rearranging the furniture. Whatever it is you find, just make sure not to over-extend yourself with money and time. You should maintain your limits as best you can. Regardless, make sure you are creating time for yourself and enjoying it. The more often you smile now the less often you will feel bad.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that this is about healing, not celebrating.
  • Even a divorce can be turned into a positive
  • Breathe, and take it easy
  • Don't turn new adventures into over-indulgences.
  • Don't over extend yourself.
